A while ago, there was a dealer who was overconfident and didn’t do site survey because he was inexperienced. He only had the height and recommended length in the assessment report, so he took on a case of a Modular Ramp with a length of 400 CM. On the day of delivery, he asked me for help. The slope was too steep, so I asked how could it be too steep if the height was correct?
Could it be that the person pushing was too weak? I found out after looking at photos of the scene. The ground at the site is already on a slope, and there are 4 stairs to the top of the slope before entering the house.
The assessment report is just for reference. Don’t believe it will reveal the real site terrain situation. Dealer’s responsibility is provide enough site information for evaluation. Taiwan Ramp Expert will provide fully support form designing, production and modification. If dealers decide the plan themselves, the responsibility will be bear to them.

The simulation site side view as below. Three stairs total rise 60 CM. Below the staircase is obviously a steep slope. The ramp on the slope make the slope more steep than previous. If you measure the slope of staircase only, you will get a slope figure only for the staircase, total rise 60 CM, the red section. To build a 1:5 slope for customer, 60*5 = 300 CM, then the beginning of losing money.
The real site is not just the staircase slope. we have to cover the slope of ground.

The real useful height concept I emphasized in class. The point of tongue(bridge/contact) plate touch the slope is the start point of slope. The point of bottom plate touch the LEVEL ground is the end point of slope. The length of these two points call SLOPE. not the figure base on the staircase total rise 60 CM.
Then students asked me, how would I know the real slope gradient of the ground slope. We can’t make a soil slice for terrain or measure the height from side. Using slope angle gauge?
The right method is find the level point#5 and pull a straight line. The length of the straight line is the slope(length) line #3. Each points on slope before level still remain a steep slope(each points on line #4).
The real slope of slope on slope is #4+#6. Lousy…
If the straight extend line is not sufficient on site. How to solve this issue? Can we.
We also have a answer for that. The Aluminum alloy platform. We have L shape, U shape even S shape(or Z shape whatever) could trans a straight extend line to a longer slope channel.
